Social Distancing Protocols

On Site Waiver

Hello Capital SUP community! We are embarking on our 7th year in business starting Memorial Day Weekend! While this year presents our most significant challenge yet, we are committed to providing a safe and positive experience to our customers. We understand the importance of providing a safe environment because people are demanding to get outside and get back to some normality. We’ve been watching the news closely and seeing many people not following the social distancing guidelines laid by the state of Maryland and Ann Arundel County.

Safety is our #1 priority on and off the water. We have spent the last two weeks reassessing our operation, from making a reservation to leaving Capital SUP after a paddle. We feel confident the new social distancing protocols outlined below will provide a safe environment for you, our customers, who inspire us to keep spreading the stoke of paddling.

Yes, we’re biased, but honestly, we can’t think of a better outdoor activity to social distance responsibly than paddling! If you’re not a fan of reading, we created a video that details our new protocols.

CAPITAL SUPS SOCIAL DISTANCING PROTOCOLS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE BASED ON GUIDANCE FROM THE STATE OF MARYLAND AND ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY.

Making An Online Reservation

All of our services can quickly be booked online via a desktop computer, tablet, or mobile device. Click BOOK NOW on our main page or any of our services pages to start the reservation process. Completing a reservation on our website takes less than 2 minutes!

Waivers

a screenshot of a social media postWaivers are required to be completed before getting on the water at Capital SUP. Our online waiver can be accessed on our website via a desktop computer, tablet, or mobile device. Click the SIGN OUR WAIVER HERE tab on the bottom right of the homepage. In past years we had three iPads in the shop where customers could complete our waiver on-site. They have been removed. Instead, you can complete the waiver on your mobile device before entering the shop.

Walk-Up Reservations & On-Site Payments

We highly recommend making a reservation and paying online before arriving at Capital SUP; however, we have created protocols to provide a safe environment for you to make a reservation and pay at Capital SUP.

Our mobile point of sale device can take reservations outside of our shop and accepts all forms of contactless payments. These include ApplePay, GooglePay, Venmo, and PayPal. Traditional debit and credit cards will be accepted. Paying with cash is not recommend, but we will never down money 🙂

Check-In & On-Land Procedures

No more than five customers will be allowed in the shop at one time. With our new protocols, there shouldn’t be a reason to be in the shop other than to store your belongings or purchase something from our retail store.

All customers and Capital SUP employees will be required to wear a mask or face covering inside the shop under the current guidelines mandated by the state of Maryland. We are taking this one step further and requiring all customers and Capital SUP employees to wear a mask or face covering to and from the water while on land. If you show up without a mask or face covering, we will have a supply of face masks to distribute.

We are implementing designated walking traffic lanes inside and around the shop to ensure our customers and Capital SUP employees maintain the recommend 6 feet distance from others.

All Capital SUP employees will be required to wear medical grade gloves and change them after every use.

Cleaning Our Equipment

If you own a Coast Guard approved PFD (life jacket), we recommend bringing it with you. All of our boards, paddles, and leashes, will get rinsed down with a color-safe bleach solution after each use.

Our PFD’s will get washed with a soap and water solution in a bucket and hung to dry for 30 minutes after each use.

New Launch Guidelines

Paddleboarding and kayaking rentals, lessons, and tours will launch every 30 minutes instead of every hour. As a result, the number of people going on and coming off the water at the same time decreases. Groups of six or more will need to call ahead to fit into the schedule.

Additional Safety Guidelines

  1. We will have a bulk supply of medical-grade face masks to distribute to anyone that needs a mask.
  2. We will have a bulk supply of medical-grade gloves to distribute.
  3. We will have touchless hand sanitizer dispensers in multiple locations at the shop.

Please be patient when arriving at Capital SUP as we adapt to these new changes ourselves. We are all new to this; therefore, if you have any recommendations on improving our safety protocols, please reach out!
