The recipes that have been passed down from three families and over 25 years have become a way of life for the ice cream makers at Always Ice Cream.
The Water
The connection with water is very powerful and we’ve seen firsthand how it can change lives. We aim to take our passion for being watermen and spread that goodness to all the programs we’ve created.
The Cause
The creation of Live Water was made possible by our community giveback efforts. With the success of improving the mental and physical wellbeing of the organizations and people we worked with, we saw an opportunity to do more!
The Beneficiaries
Live Water programs aspire to create positive vibes within the veteran community, inspire underprivileged and disabled youth to become future leaders, and champion the enhancement of the waterways in which we paddle on.
Programs
WAI KOA PERFORMANCE PROGRAM
An adaptive water sports program for disabled Veterans.
Wai Koa is Hawaiian for Water Warriors. The Wai Koa program is an adaptive water sports training program for physically and mentally disabled veterans. The Live Water team will train the warriors in a variety of paddle craft and will take them to races with the Capital SUP race team to compete! It will aim to improve the physical and mental well-being of these veterans by giving them the means to cope with their disabilities that are different than the normal routes. Wai Koa will provide a social and competitive outlet for these veterans, creating a community that will embrace them as they are.

SPA CREEK CLEAN WATER PADDLEFEST
The paddle for water conservation begins.
Watch this! In September 2016 a partnership was formed with the Spa Creek Conservancy. The first ever fundraiser by the Spa Creek Conservancy was held at the marina of Capital SUP at the (SAYC) South Annapolis Yacht Centre. 150 paddlers explored the coves of Spa Creek learning about the conservation and preservation efforts by the SCC while on land you could find the EcoFEST. The event helped to raise over 20K for future water monitoring programs on the Spa Creek. The SCC conducts weekly water monitoring at the docks of Capital SUP, Ego Alley, Hawkins Cove, Truxton Cove, South Cherry Grove, and the Chesapeake Children’s Museum you can find the information at www.spacreek.net
OYSTER RECOVERY PROGRAM
Join the clean water movement.
Suspended along the piers of the South Annapolis Yacht Centre – 50 oyster cages hang into the turbid waters of Spa Creek. Every month volunteers come together to participate in the monthly cleaning of the cages. In the summer when the water warms, algae can foul and suffocate the baby oysters. These cleanings allow baby oyster spat to mature into healthy self-sufficient adults. Mud Crabs, eels, baby blue crabs, skillet fish, blennies, and other sea-worms call this caged oyster reef home. In the summer the 1-year-old oysters are transferred and planted on a historic oyster reef in the Severn River. Special thanks to the Severn River Association, Marylanders Grow Oysters Program, & Oyster Recovery Partnership for the continued education and support in the clean water movement.
